Where the facts come from
Every factual claim on this site links to its source. This is the full list.
How we checked
We only use expert sources: the Met Office, NOAA’s JetStream online school and Encyclopaedia Britannica (its written articles, not its AI summaries or question boxes). Each fact was written in our own words alongside its source. Our build script stores the source text and, for every fact, checks that the key words and figures really appear in it. 180 of 180 checks passed when this site was last built (3 Nov 2026). Where we couldn’t find one of those sources saying it, we left the claim out. Where two sources differ (the temperature line between temperate and continental climates, for one), we quote both.
The games
The Climate Maker is our own code. It applies the rules in Britannica’s Köppen table, with two shortcuts it explains on screen: it estimates the yearly mean temperature as halfway between the coldest and warmest months, and it lets you choose the dry season rather than comparing every month’s rain. The quiz, clue, timeline and pairs answers come from the pages below.
